A New Holland TG tractor owner asks…

How can I make faster headland turns?

TG Series controls, including the Forward- Neutral- Reverse, independent throttle, and hydraulic remote levers, are located on your righthand armrest control. The armrest is adjustable and travels with your seat so the controls are always in the perfect position for operation.

You can simplify headland turns with two convenient switches located side-by-side on the armrest console—the Hitch Up/Down Switch and the Transmission Up/Down Switch.

Making tight headland turns is easy with a New Holland TG tractor.

First, program the number of gears—from one to four—that you want to downshift for your turn at the headland. Then, at the end of the row, simply depress both buttons rearward to downshift and raise the implement. After turning, depress both buttons forward to shift up and lower the hitch. When working with trailed implements, the Transmission Up/Down Switch can be used in the same convenient manner.

End-of-row convenience

You can simplify headland turns with the two convenient switches located side-by-side on the armrest console.

To make an even tighter headland turn with your TG tractor, simply place the FWD rocker switch and the differential lock rocker switch in their automatic position. These two switches are located on the right side armrest control, and enable each system to be engaged in the automatic mode, the manual mode, or the disengaged mode.

When operating in the automatic mode with hitch-mounted implements, the FWD and differential lock will automatically disengage when the hitch is raised out of the ground, and re-engage when the hitch is lowered.

When operating in the automatic mode with trailing implements, the system functions the same way. You notify the system of the headland turn by slightly depressing and holding one of the tractor’s brake pedals.

Other productivity features

Automatic road operation

The TG transmission converts to an automatic transmission with the push of the Auto Shift button on the right-hand armrest control console. For Automatic Road Operation, push the Auto Shift button when you are in gears 13 and above and you can operate the tractor using only the throttle.

Automatic Field Operation engages in gears at 12 and below. The transmission will automatically maintain tractor performance under varying loads in the field based on throttle, engine speed and engine load. When the tractor encounters a load, the transmission automatically downshifts, then when conditions improve, returns to the gear that was in use when you pressed the Auto Shift button.

“Cruise” control

The electronic engine management of the TG255 and TG285 provide you with a "cruise control" feature with the Constant Engine Speed option. You can set the maximum engine speed and maintain that exact engine rpm for field applications such as planting and spraying. At the headland, simply reduce engine rpm with the throttle, make your turn, and push your throttle full forward to attain the pre-set constant engine speed.

Operator controls are conveniently located on the right hand armrest control.
